Coming up: Ukraine, Facebook whistleblower, green transition

MEPs will discuss Ukraine, vote on proposals for the EU’s green transition and look at the impact of digital market rules with Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen.
Ukraine
The situation in Ukraine remains firmly on the Parliament's agenda this week. On Thursday, MEPs will vote on resolutions about the social and economic consequences of the war and the EU’s capacity to act, as well as the fight against impunity for war crimes in Ukraine.
MEPs will also debate and vote on energy security, in the light of Russia's recent cuts to the gas supply to Poland and Bulgaria.
On Tuesday, the international trade committee will vote to lift all import duties on Ukrainian products to help support its economy, while the transport committee will also discuss the state of Ukraine’s infrastructure and ways to support its recovery with Ukraine's Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov.
Address by the President of Moldova
On Wednesday afternoon, the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, will discuss attempts to undermine the country’s government in the Parliament, amid growing fears that the war could spread to the Russian-backed breakaway region of Transnistria.
Global minimum corporate tax rate
The proposal for a global minimum corporate tax rate of 15% will be debated in plenary on Wednesday and voted on Thursday. The draft report calls for a review clause that would allow the revenue threshold above which multinational corporations would be subject to the minimum tax rate to be revised.
Green transition
Parliament’s environment committee will vote on a set of proposals under the “Fit for 55 package, to help meet the EU objective of a minimum 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The package is part of the European Green Deal, which aims to set the EU on the path to climate neutrality by 2050.
Digital market rules
Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen will discuss the impact of the Digital Services Act and the Digital Market Act with the internal market and consumer protection committee on Wednesday. Parliament and Council have reached a provisional agreement on the new rules, which aim to create a safer and more open digital space for users.
The committee will vote on the Digital Market Act on Monday.
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia
On Tuesday 17 May, Parliament will mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia. President Roberta Metsola and the chairs of the LGBTI intergroup Terry Reintke (Greens/EFA, Germany) and Mark Angel (S&D, Luxembourg) will join a Facebook live session at 9.30 CET.
