The first batch of the European Parliament’s interparliamentary delegations has elected their Chairs and Vice-Chairs on Monday.

13 of 48 interparliamentary delegations have voted for their bureaus at their constitutive meetings on Monday, 30 September. Eleven delegations elected the full bureau and two, on Israel and Montenegro, postponed the election of their 1st and 2nd Vice-Chairs.

To be eligible, candidates for Chair and Vice-Chair had to be full delegation members and complete the declaration on Awareness of Conflicts of Interest, the declaration of private interests, and the declaration relating to the Code of appropriate behaviour.

Parliament’s Rules of Procedure state that the diversity of Parliament must be reflected in the composition of the bureau of each delegation. The Chair and the first Vice-Chair of a delegation shall not be of the same gender. Gender balance shall also apply to the other members of the bureau. It shall not be permissible for all of the bureau members to come from the same Member State.

The remaining delegations will vote on their bureaus at the constitutive meetings between the 1 and 8 October, with the biggest batch of delegations having their constitutive meetings on 3 October.

Here you can find the names of the Chairs and Vice-Chairs of each delegation. The list will be also available on the delegation websites

The full list of delegations members is available here.

Background

Interparliamentary delegations maintain relations and exchange information with parliamentarians and a range of other stakeholders in other countries, regions and organisations to foster the EU’s core values: liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law. Only official delegations, duly authorised by the Conference of Presidents, are permitted to carry out activities on behalf of the European Parliament and to represent its position.
