President Metsola opened the 25-28 November plenary session in Strasbourg by marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In advance of a plenary debate on the issue, and alongside the illuminating of the European Parliament’s buildings in Strasbourg as part of the “Orange the world” campaign, President Metsola stressed that MEPs “stand with those abused, traumatised, bullied and brutalised.”

She highlighted the work done in Parliament to pass legislation combating violence against women and domestic violence, criminalising more forms of abuse offline and online at the European level, and that “this legislature must go even further. Strengthening protection across Europe and ensuring those who prey on these women are prosecuted.”
