A delegation from the Internal Market Committee will travel to Washington DC 24 - 28 February to meet with US policy makers and stakeholders to strengthen the transatlantic relationship.

During their fact-finding visit the delegation, led by IMCO Chair Anna Cavazzini (Greens/EFA, DE), will meet with counterparts in the US Congress, US Government entities, academics, and industry representatives. The objective of the mission is to gain insight into shared challenges in the areas of digital innovation, cybersecurity, fair competition, and to identify opportunities for transatlantic cooperation.

MEPs will learn about the effects of key EU tech laws on the ground, in particular the Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act. They are also expected to discuss other initiatives like the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act, Data Act and Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising, and to hear about the plans of the new US government in these areas.

Ahead of the visit, Anna Cavazzini (Greens/EFA, DE) said: “Our mission to Washington, the first parliamentary delegation to the United States under the new administration, will engage with businesses, civil society, lawmakers and the new US administration on pressing topics shaping the transatlantic relationship. Our common challenges in digital innovation and artificial intelligence, in ensuring fair competition, and a high level of cybersecurity and consumer protection will require collaboration, mutual understanding and respect for democratic decision-making. During our meetings, we will stress the importance of the EU single market for the US economy and the mutual benefits of our strong economic cooperation".

The delegation also consists of Andreas Schwab (EPP, DE), Pablo Arias Echeverría (EPP, ES), Christel Schaldemose (S&D, DK), Klára Dostálová (PfE, CZ), Piotr Müller (ECR, PL), and Sandro Gozi (Renew, FR).
