A four-member delegation of Development Committee MEPs will attend the Nutrition for Growth Summit 2025 in Paris on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 March.

Committee on Development Chair Barry Andrews (Renew, IE) will lead a four-member delegation of committee MEPs participating in the Nutrition for Growth Summit hosted by the French government in Paris, on 27-28 March. The MEPs will attend the Summit to support the EU’s Team Europe efforts towards ending malnutrition.

The EP’s Development Committee has consistently advocated for the mobilisation of global action to support nutrition, promote food security and build resilient food systems and agriculture. Malnutrition remains the leading cause of infant mortality worldwide and addressing it is key to achieving the hunger- and malnutrition-related Sustainable Development Goals.

Summit Side Event and Press Point

As part of the summit, the Development Committee together with the Generation Nutrition Coalition will organise a side event on Thursday 27 March from 18.00 at the "Europa Expérience Paris (28 place de la Madeleine, Paris 8e). The event will focus on the need for sustaining and strengthening responses to nutritional crises in fragile and conflict-affected settings. MEPs and Coalition representatives will discuss both the financial as well as political commitments that need to be sustained in the fight against malnutrition.

Additionally, delegation lead and Committee Chair Barry Andrews will hold a brief press point with interested media on Thursday 27 March at 14.15 (timing to be confirmed) at the main Summit conference centre.

Quote

Speaking ahead of Summit, delegation lead Barry Andrews said: “Nutrition For Growth will be the first event in 2025 where we will have the opportunity to collectively discuss how we can respond to the current crisis facing the development sector. Severe cuts to development aid by the US and several EU member states, which are inevitably affecting food security around the world, must be at the forefront of the discussions in Paris.

“The Summit will be a key moment for Europe to step up, show leadership, and set ambitious commitments. From financing and accountability to crisis resilience and the future of food systems, we must take decisive action to secure sustainable nutrition for all.”

The following MEPs will participate in the delegation:

Barry ANDREWS (Committee Chair and delegation lead, Renew, IE)

Leire PAIJÍN (S&D, ES)

Murielle LAURENT (S&D, FR)

Vlad VOICULESCU (Renew, RO)
