Parliament gives consent to EU-Brazil law enforcement cooperation agreement

Parliament has given its consent to an agreement on law enforcement cooperation between Europol and the Federal Police of Brazil.

 

The agreement establishing cooperation between the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) and the Federal Police of Brazil allows for the exchange of personal and non-personal data to combat serious crime and terrorism. Consent was adopted with 606 votes in favour, 5 against, and 19 abstentions.

 

The agreement on law enforcement cooperation between the EU and Brazil is set to strengthen efforts against a range of serious criminal offenses, including drug trafficking, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism. It allows for the transfer of personal and non-personal data between Europol and the Federal Police of Brazil to facilitate investigations, and includes specific provisions to protect fundamental rights, including the right to privacy and data protection.
